"I'm actually a serious girl" outfit

Hey! I know that I didn't write anything in almost a week but I can't promise that something will change: I have a birthday (finally 18!) this sunday and I have to organize everything. And I also have university that obviously is trying to kill me with assignments. But I'll try as hard as I can!

To the theme of the post: this is a picture of an outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago. I had a first class with the most severe professor and I decided that I need to look serious. Not that it really matters - I mean, my skirt cannot improve my knowledge but still...
In fact, I'm quite shy with colors. I always struggle with matches, with bright colors (if we're not talking about lipsticks, of course) so this cardigan is for me a possibility to be a little bit creative. How do you like it?

What I'm wearing:
Cardigan - Splendid
Shirt - Gap
Skirt - Loft (some shop in Paris)
Brooch - gift

Big Post About Lipsticks. Part 1: Bright Lipsticks

As any vintage girl knows, bright lipstick is one of the most significant details of a perfect vintage look. Besides, I believe that extraordinary lipstick can make anyone look better so I try to have as much different lipsticks as possible. Today I'm going to write about bright lipsticks that I use often. If it sounds interesting to you – welcome under the cut!

Apologies and hairstyles

This is a quick post where I want to apologise that I'm not active much: my exams are approaching terrifyingly fast and I am flooded with homeworks to do, books to read and lectures to learn by heart. I presume I won't be around much for the next few weeks.

However, I am very excited about the next post I want to write! As you may know, I own a number of different lipsticks and I decided that it would be entertaining to write about them with photos etc. I think I will divide this theme into three or four parts. I hope it will come out on Monday!

Also I started to experiment with my hair. Here are some of my attempts (remember, I'm a newbie!):

Outfit of the day: denim overall

Yesterday I found in my wardrobe this amazing overall by Levi's. A long time ago it was my sister's, then she gave it to me but I felt too plump to wear it. Now, however, I slimmed down a little and I think it doesn't looks bad at all!
I love to mix feminine details such as red lipstick and curls with more boyish, playful clothes like this overall and shirt. I also found out that wearing a scarf as a headband (I was told this kind of thing calls "Katyusha" which is very sweet because it's a russian name) is the best and the lightest way to become fancy in a matter of minutes!
In the end I think I am quite content with the final look. And what do you think?

 Scarf – Cartier
Cardigan – Zara
Shirt – bought on flea-market
Overall – Levi's

Lindy hop

I think I've mentioned before that I started dancing lindy hop. I only had two classes and I'm already hooked!

Lindy hop is a dance style that was born in black communities in the United States in the late twenties-thirties. It's a kind of a jazz dance and a member of the swing dance family.
Lindy hop can be fast and slow, it is a very rhythmic and funny social dance. The word 'social' means that it has to be performed with a partner. As I understood, normally you have to change your partner every song so you can communicate with a lot of different people on dance party. I don't go to such parties yet because I'm obviously only a newbie but I'm really looking forward to it!

Under the cut are some lindy hop videos, old and new. What do you think? :)

Winter clothes

Winter always makes me a little frustrated. I don't know what to wear, how not to catch a cold (and this year I already did!) and, well, how to live in general. This time of year is quite rough in Moscow: it is around 0° C, suns rises later than I leave home and goes down earlier than I come back and it feels like I'm an owl or someone else living in the night. Thankfully, I have some ideas about what to wear when it'll start snowing. I'm even a little bit excited about snow and it is quite unexpected for me!

Here are some clothes that, I believe, will be perfect for winter:

This amazing full skirt from Modcloth. Aren't this fans just a fabulous finish touch? I think it will look wonderful with pink, mustard wool cardigans with detachable peter pan collars or simple blue shirts.

Those (or any similar, in fact) 40s-50s style high-waisted trousers seems to be warm enough for winter, very comfy and you can wear it with pretty much anything! I like gray ones.

Any woolen skirts in mid-fifties style (am I right?) are great. In "Mona Lisa Smile" all the girls wore resembling skirts. I found a lot of pretty ones here and here on Etsy. I would probably wear it with ascot tie blouses like this and jackets.

I literally fell in love with this wonderful purple suit. It is perfect from head to toes. Color, fabric, style...I like everything about it!

What about you? Do you have any desirable clothes? Tell me everything!

Outfit of the day

This is what I'm wearing today:
Shirt – H&M
Cardigan – Zara
Skirt – Alice+Olivia
Belt – off-brand

Also today I'm going to my first ever dancing class. I decided to learn how to dance lindie hop. I'm in no meaning a good (or even decent) dancer so I believe it will be funny! Of course, I'm quite nervous so wish me a good luck!

Autumn/winter, sweet tea and Brodsky

I am a huge lover of poetry, especially russian poetry of Silver Century and later such as Tsvetaeva, Akhmatova, (strong smart women are my favorite!). But the poet who will always be in my heart is Joseph Brodsky.

Brodsky was born in 1940 in Saint-Petersbourg, USSR. In 18 or around this age (there are different opinions) Joseph wrote his first poem and had never stopped since. In 1972, due to his conflict with Soviet authorities he was expelled from the country and settled in America. Man that have never had any higher education – only 8 classes of comprehensive school – became a university professor. Later he received the titul of poet-laureate of the Library of Congress and even Nobel prise. Unfortunately, Soviet authorities didn't give him a possibility to see his parents and friends back in Russia. He never saw one of his favorite cities, the city in which he was born and which he truly adored – Saint-Petersbourg. Brodsky died because of heart attack in 1996, in his studio-appartment in New-York.

Joseph Brodsky is a very significant man for me. I admire his talent, his views and the dignity with which he carried all the tragic events in his life. I always try to carry one of his books with me, specifically in these days, when autumn slowly moves to winter, air is cold and sky is light.

Today I had some leisure time and I spent it reading Brodsky and drinking sweet tea. Now I feel more ready for cold and murky days. Here are some photos of my off-time.
Note: photos are (obviously) not taken by me and therefore blurry and unfocused. But I even like them better this way, to be honest.

Just some random photos

I think in the next post I'll try to write about winter in Moscow because it's already snowing and below zero but right now I'll simply post some photos of my everyday life. Hope you'll enjoy it!
