Land Girls

I am one of those people that need to take a break while studying from time to time. Normally I watch different TV-show for that reason, and right now I study really, really hard.
Obviously, I wanted to watch something vintage-related. The famous "Mad Men" appeared a little boring for my taste as I like strong women characters. Instead I was given an advice to try Land Girls, BBC costume series about, well, land girls, women conscripted to work on the land during World War II. The plot is very entertaining (even if a little bit cliched). I know that their costumes aren't always historically correct but oh god their hairstyles! I'm in love!
Of course I'm not only watching it because of their 'dos. Maybe just a little. Anyway, the characters are wonderful, very realistic and detailed. It really makes you feel passionate about girls' destinies. Besides, the whole soul of époque is unbelievable!

What are your favorite costume movies and series?

I made some screen capes that you can see under the cut. I tried (and hopefully succeeded) not to spoil anything if you decide to watch it. :)

  1. Ohh I needed another vintage-y show to keep me occupied I am going to have to try to find this one. My current favourite show is "The Hour" by BBC and set in the mid 50's in London. The producer of the show is female as is one of the main reporters...which is a bit better than Mad Men's secretaries and wives. I also enjoyed the first season of "Bomb Girls" set in Canada during the war...plenty of strong women in that show.
